This foundational training will teach you to safely and effectively guide students in the practice of yin yoga. We will explore the archetypal pose families in depth --- learning to analyze what is going on in terms of muscles and joints in each pose, and, importantly, in each individual's body. We will also explore beyond the physical to energetic theories and to the level of mind and emotions, learning to take a personalized, mindful and holistic approach to the practice.
Leta LaVigne (E-RYT 500) is the founder of yogaROCKS studios in Lahti and one of Finland's senior yin yoga teachers. She has immersed herself in the practice and teaching of yin yoga since 2010, and has trained and mentored many yoga facilitators in Finland. Leta has been greatly influenced by studies with Yin Yoga pioneer Paul Grilley, with whom she has studied regularly with for over a decade. As a devoted Grilley student, she teaches yin with a functional approach rather than relying on alignment rules based on how a pose should look. A functional approach stresses the “why” as much as the “how,” and encourages students to customize their practice for their unique body. It builds confidence in the individual to proceed on the yogic path verified by their own experience, and acts as a platform from which a teacher can facilitate greater presence/awareness/healing/peace.
As an experienced teacher trainer who still teaches full time herself, Leta infuses her trainings with humor, warmth, and a wealth of practical experience.  She has a love of helping new teachers identify and develop their unique strengths.
Who is this training for?
This program is open to anyone who wishes to dive deeper into the practice and offering of yin yoga....current teachers who wish to broaden their skill set (yes! this program can be counted as Yoga Alliance continuing education hours) or dedicated practitioners who want "more" but may not be sure about teaching yet.
This 50 hour module is also a requirement for yogaROCKS 200 hour certification program -- if you are interested in the joining full program, please contact Leta for more information.
Previous students have said:
"Hyvät ystävät - jos harkitsette Yin-joogan syventävää koulutusta, suosittelen tosi lämpimästi Leta-An LaVignen funktionaalisen lähestymistavan kurssia.
" - Teija Maila
I loved everything! The down-to-earthness about functionality yet keeping in mind that yoga is yoga and not just fashionable streching. Leta has so much experience and a way of verbalizing it to get to the core of the essentials. It was amazing to have such a well constructed course and proper manual, all put together for us. On a meta level, it was good to learn about teaching, too: Leta really knows how to teach, both yoga and yoga teachers! ? The atmosphere and rapport was so welcoming and warm that a real sense of belonging, trust and companionship was quickly established - it was good we took time for the introductions and mixed up the teaching groups for everybody to interact with each other. I have experienced trainings that have not felt like value for money (outside of the yoga scene as well), but this course had the sense of added value, which is quite unique these days. And that stems from Leta's personal skills and spirit! - Katja Heikkiläinen
“I recommend this training. A full-on five hearts! It provides you with a useful method on how to approach Yin Yoga as a whole, which I found to be priceless timewise and focuswise as the diverse information out there can feel a bit overwhelming to get a grip on. The training also sparked my enthusiasm to learn more, to dive into the books and other sources that were recommended. The training encouraged to embrace our differences and to find comfort to start exploring ways to bring authenticity into the practice. Leta is such a sweet and thoughtful teacher. She is really considerate in her languaging. A true artist in the way she uses words. She inspires me to be more skillful and mindful in how I communicate. Her constructive feedback feels like it's a realization of your own and which you want to remember next time. The training welcomes you as you are, it helps you to open up and to further explore the aspects of who you truly are. Thank you. ?” -Jaana Ritari
"Leta is a very approachable and happy person, who is always eager to assist. Leta is a student of Paul Grilley's, so the line to the source of Yin Yoga is a straight one. This also means there is a lot of anatomy and physiology involved, and it is all directly applied to Yin Yoga. It is a very pragmatic package and helps understanding the whole concept of Yin Yoga and how it affects the human body. Much of the time is spent learning that, but there is also a segment about the more esoteric aspects of any Yoga, including chakras, which makes this training very complete and all-rounded. The class structure is well-defined with certain key components to be included about every asana, which makes teaching Yin Yoga very logical and whole." -Mika Perkiömäki M.Ed in Exercise Science
"Leta on ihanan lempeä ja ammattitaitoinen opettaja. Asioita kerrattiin paljon ja lähestyttiin eri näkökulmista mikä teki opiskelusta mielekästä ja asiat jäi hyvin mieleen. Sain erinomaiset eväät Yin-joogan ohjaamiseen!" - Outi Heiniö

200 HOUR RYT  - Become a Certified Yoga Teacher

Our original 200 Hour Yoga Alliance program is a deep dive into the many layers of yoga -- a comprehensive training that will prepare you with all the fundamentals to teach both yin yoga and "yang" yoga (hatha/vinyasa flow), as you develop your own powerful and unique voice.

What Makes YogaROCKS 200 Hour Teacher Training Unique?

  • Multidimensional: Our program gives you a diversity of teaching tools and modalities instead of limiting you to one particular style or sequence.  This widens the range of possibilities for you as a facilitator, and deepens your understanding and experience of the range of transformative benefits of yoga practice.
  • Learn to truly facilitate: You will not be memorizing and reciting rules and sequences. Instead, we emphasize thorough understanding of the foundations and mastery of basic teaching skills, so that you can successfully create your own classes and offer informed, intelligent, skillful and safe instruction from a place of presence and confidence.
  • Find Yourself: Our mission is to help you identify and develop your own style, so you can grow your career from a deep sense of clarity about your unique strengths and purpose.
  • Small Group Size:  We maintain small group sizes so that each individual is truly supported and a real community is developed.  These small group sizes also allow for a strong practicum element, so that each teacher gets to teach multiple yoga classes throughout the training.

yogaROCKS Yoga Teacher training

Are you ready to deepen and share your passion for yoga?  Whether you are interested in learning to teach, or are looking for the most in-depth and transformational exploration of your personal practice, our 200 hour Yoga Alliance-approved program will help you take that next step on your life path!  This training will prepare you with all the fundamentals to teach both yin yoga and "yang" styles of practice (hatha/vinyasa flow) in combination, or on their own.

This is a foundational training where we will work a great deal with essentials of asana, the nuts and bolts of bodies, and fundamental teaching skills. But at its heart, yoga is not about the achievement of any particular physical form -- yoga invites us to a profound experience of our connection to all creation -- so we work with this perspective in mind. As teachers, we can learn not only to direct students intelligently in asana, but to enrich experience of this holistic aspect of the practice.

Influenced by studies with Paul Grilley, Leta strongly believes in empowering students by teaching with a functional approach, which stresses the "why" of doing a pose or technique as much as the "how," and takes into account the unique practitioner.  The development of this skill will be supported in every aspect of our TT program from learning about skeletal variation and biomechanics of asana, to our personal explorations of pranayama and meditation techniques and their effects on the subtle body.

Group sizes are small and we are particularly strong on practicum, so you will graduate the program feeling confident about teaching. (Though you absolutely do not need to intend to teach in order to join the program and deepen your practice :-)).

You can expect a physically, mentally and spiritually challenging program consisting of workshops, lecture, practice, readings, self study/reflection, and observation covering:

  • Study of foundational yoga postures
  • Principles of anatomy and how they apply to the practice of yoga
  • Skeletal variation -- learn to see and work with a variety of bodies
  • The science and art of sequencing a class
  • Teaching and practicing from a functional approach
  • Finding your voice and teaching from a heartfelt place
  • Confidence through practice teaching
  • Hands on adjustments and  Assisted Yin Yoga
  • Yoga history and philosophy
  • An introduction to the subtle body, pranayama and meditation
  • Beyond basic instruction -- how to theme, teach people instead of poses, and cue to different levels of awareness
  • Basic business for yoga and how to articulate your passion and purpose

Candidates who complete this program will achieve the following objectives:

  • Learn the skills and techniques to confidently and successfully plan and teach yoga classes.
  • Gain a more detailed understanding of foundational asanas informed by knowledge of functional anatomy for yoga.
  • Learn the philosophy of yoga and through self-study, reflection and practice, explore how to more fully integrate the principles yoga into life in order to inspire transformation in others.

About lead teacher Leta LaVigne:

Leta LaVigne, E-RYT 500, is a Seattle native who now lives with her family in Lahti, Finland, where she owns the studio yogaROCKS. She has been teaching since 2008 having started with hot yoga and moved into vinyasa flow and yin. She draws from all of these traditions to craft intuitive classes that often combine both dynamic movement with the depth and stillness of yin asanas, drawing awareness through body, muscle and bone, to the subtle breath and inner landscape. Her teaching style has been influenced very much by studies with Paul and Suzee Grilley which she began in 2011.

“Finding yoga felt like falling in love… buzzing with a new-found ease in the moment despite many unknowns in my life at the time. As my own practice continues to unfold and draw me further inwards, I feel a corresponding strengthening of my connection to all life flowing outwards, and this connectivity is the yoga I wish to share.  My mission in teaching is to facilitate this experience of wholeness.”

Leta strives to teach with a functional approach rather than  relying on alignment rules based on how a pose should look. A functional approach stresses the “why” as much as the “how,” and encourages students to customize their practice for their own unique body.  Leta has certifications to teach Hot Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga and Aerial Yoga.  She continues her advanced studies with Paul and Suzee Grilley and is beginning and a program with Tara Judelle in Embodied Flow summer of 2016.

"Leta's teacher training is a great way for you to deepen your practice and knowledge of yoga, whether you plan to teach or not. Her functional approach to yoga helps you build confidence and knowledge of your own body's limits and possibilites as well as for others.  This will benefit you to guide others in a safe way in their practice. Her supportive personality, vast experience and holistic view of yoga allows you to learn and grow on and off the mat."  -- Cat, yogaROCKS TT graduate

Who can apply?  Anyone with a sincere desire to learn more and share the practice.  We recommend at least one year of dedicated yoga practice.  Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.  All sessions and hours MUST be complete to graduate and obtain a 200hour certificate, so please make sure attendance will not be an issue.
